About the album.

Preacher's Daughter is the debut studio album from American singer-songwriter Ethel Cain, a slow-burning Americana record first released on her own Daughters Of Cain label in May 2022. This double LP is its first official vinyl pressing, released in April 2025.

Hayden Anhedönia, the artist behind Ethel Cain, wrote and produced it, with Steven Colyer co-writing 'American Teenager' and Matthew Tomasi adding production to 'Ptolemaea' and 'August Underground' as well as mixing the album, which Dale Becker mastered. It is a concept album, the first of a planned trilogy, following the fictional Ethel Cain through a Southern Gothic story of religion, family and escape, drawn loosely from Anhedönia's own upbringing as the daughter of a deacon.

Alongside Americana, it moves through dark ambient passages, roots rock and slowcore across 13 tracks and more than 75 minutes. 'Gibson Girl' was the lead single, followed by 'Strangers' and 'American Teenager'. When the vinyl arrived in 2025, the album debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200, making Cain the first openly transgender artist to reach the top ten.

Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You followed in 2025 as a prequel to this story, and the two sit side by side naturally on the shelf.
