Durand Jones & The Indications - Flowers (Vinyl LP)
Black Vinyl • Single LP
'Flowers' is barely a breath, twenty-odd seconds of flute before 'Paradise' opens into sweet, slow soul, falsetto floating over the keys. 'Lovers' Holiday' hands the lead to a deeper voice, percussion ticking and a backing choir answering every line. Nothing here hurries. 'Flower Moon' brings the horns in, trumpet, trombone and sax stacked warm and low. 'Really Wanna Be With You' lays strings and French horn under the ballad. From 'Everything' onward the string section stays for good, and 'Without You' closes the record wrapped in it.

About the album.
Flowers is the fourth studio album from American soul group Durand Jones & The Indications, a warm, slow-burning soul record released on Dead Oceans in June 2025. It follows 2021's Private Space, stepping back from that album's disco and jazz-funk touches towards a classic soul sound built mostly on ballads.
The band wrote it at guitarist Blake Rhein's home in Chicago and produced it themselves, with Durand Jones and drummer Aaron Frazer sharing lead vocals, Steve Okonski on keys and Rhein on guitar, while Jon Castelli mixed the record and Dale Becker mastered it.
Across 11 tracks the arrangements fill out with flute, horns and strings. Mae.Sun's flute runs through the opening five tracks, and Ginger Dolden and Pete Lanctot arranged the string section that carries the closing run from 'Everything' through to 'Without You'. Brian Gazo's percussion and a rotating cast of backing singers fill out the rest.
'Been So Long' was the lead single, released in March 2025. Critics heard the band's classic soul lineage throughout, with Mojo holding 'Paradise' up against The Stylistics, and there is plenty here for fans of contemporary R&B as well as vintage soul. For more of the band, their self-titled debut, American Love Call and Private Space are the natural next steps.
