About the album.
Half-Told Tales is the ninth studio album from Arab Strap, the Scottish indie duo of Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton, released by Rock Action Records on 4 September 2026.
It lands almost exactly 30 years after their first single, The First Big Weekend, and follows As Days Get Dark from 2021 and I'm totally fine with it 👍 don't give a fuck anymore 👍 from 2024, making it their third album since reforming. It was recorded at Chem19 with long-time collaborator Paul Savage, whose credits include Mogwai and Belle and Sebastian.
Moffat says the band put everything from the sessions onto this record rather than leaving songs behind. The label describes an album that runs from disco to metal via post-rock and spoken word, with folk and electronic touches along the way, and Moffat calls lead single 'You You You' a disco-metal incantation. Middleton has said the album lands somewhere between what each of them wanted to make, and that tension is part of why it works.
The vinyl edition is a double LP on black vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.
Rock Action is Mogwai's own label, and if Half-Told Tales hits the spot, Mogwai is the natural next record to reach for.
