Aphex Twin - ...I Care Because You Do (Vinyl 2LP)
Black Vinyl • 2LP • 2026 Reissue
'Acrid Avid Jam Shred' opens on a battered, distorted breakbeat with a sad synth melody drifting over the top. That tension runs through the whole record: brutal drums, tender tunes. 'Ventolin' is the hard edge, a piercing high whine that refuses to back off. 'Icct Hedral' slows everything to a heavy, cathedral-sized crawl. 'Alberto Balsalm' goes the other way, a delicate chiming melody over skittering beats. 'Come On You Slags!' gets loose and filthy. Then 'Next Heap With' drops the drums altogether and ends on a slow, stately orchestral swell. Aphex Twin at his most human.

About the album.
...I Care Because You Do is the third studio album from Aphex Twin, an electronic and IDM record released on Warp on 24 April 1995. Richard D. James assembled it from material made between 1990 and 1994, and each track is annotated with the date it was created.
The album sets distorted, heavily programmed drums against melancholy synth melodies, a sharp turn from the beatless calm of Selected Ambient Works Volume II a year earlier. 'Ventolin', named after the asthma inhaler, was released ahead of it as the Ventolin E.P., and 'Icct Hedral' was later reworked with an orchestration by Philip Glass on the Donkey Rhubarb EP.
James' humour runs all through it. Several titles are anagrams of his own name and aliases: 'Acrid Avid Jam Shred' spells Richard David James, and 'Cow Cud Is a Twin' rearranges Caustic Window, one of his earlier pseudonyms. The cover painting is a self-portrait, credited simply to "Me".
Twelve tracks run across four sides, three to a side, giving the longer pieces room on vinyl. The set ends with 'Next Heap With', a beatless orchestral close.
For anyone who knows Aphex Twin through Selected Ambient Works, this is where the beats arrive in force, leading straight to Richard D. James Album, released the following year.
