Wilco - Cousin (Vinyl LP)
Single LP • European Pressing
Infinite Surprise opens on a click clacking pulse that keeps adding layers until the guitars start wailing over the top. It crashes back down and ends on popping static. Ten Dead sets a bright piano against shadowy guitars that reverberate and thicken toward the end. Levee swoons through minor chords with the band holding atmosphere behind it. Evicted bounces, twangy guitar glissandos over a limber bass and a shuffle. A Bowl And A Pudding unspools in long unhurried lines. Meant To Be closes on a simple twelve string pattern, the band rumbling off into the distance.

About the album.
Cousin is an indie rock record released in September 2023, the thirteenth studio album by Wilco. The band recorded it at The Loft, their Chicago studio, between January 2019 and May 2023, with Jeff Tweedy writing all ten songs. The Welsh musician Cate Le Bon produced, the first outside producer Wilco had used in well over a decade, and she plays bass, piano and synthesiser and sings backing vocals across the record. Rather than tracking live as they had on Cruel Country, the band worked in overdubs and layers, giving the songs a built-up, collaged quality that pushes the record toward art rock, with the folk and pop edges of their earlier work still audible underneath. It was mastered by Bob Ludwig. This edition is the European pressing on dBpm Records.
