Tracey Thorn - A Distant Shore (Expanded 12" Vinyl Edition)
12" Vinyl · Expanded Edition
Just a voice and a semi-acoustic guitar, and nothing else needed. Recorded in a garden shed for next to nothing, wintry and unguarded. Every line lands closer than you expect it to. A quiet cornerstone of British indie that still stops the room forty years on.
“Great website experience and some absolute crackers to choose from, matched by swift delivery.”

About the album.
A Distant Shore was Tracey Thorn's debut solo album, released on Cherry Red in September 1982 while she was a nineteen-year-old student at Hull University. Recorded for a reported £138, it strips everything back to her voice and semi-acoustic guitar, a stark, minimal record made during a fertile stretch when she was also playing in The Marine Girls and about to begin her lifelong partnership with Ben Watt in Everything But The Girl. Its quiet, melodic melancholy set it apart, and it lingered on the UK Independent Chart for months to become one of Cherry Red's defining releases. This 2024 expanded edition, freshly remastered at Abbey Road Studios with new sleeve notes by Tracey, adds five previously unreleased demos hand-picked from her cassette archive: "Lucky Day," cut at the original album sessions, plus four songs later re-recorded for Everything But The Girl's debut, Eden.
