The Stone Roses - The Remixes (Vinyl 2lp)

The Remixes is a compilation from The Stone Roses that recasts the Manchester band's best-known songs as electronic dance music. The songs were handed to many of the leading UK dance producers of the time. First released on Silvertone on 30 October 2000, it reached number 41 on the UK Albums Chart. The remixers include fellow Mancunians 808 State and A Guy Called Gerald, alongside Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne, Utah Saints, Grooverider, Jon Carter, Justin Robertson, Mint Royale, Rabbit In The Moon, Elephant, Soul Hooligan and Kinobe. 'Fools Gold' appears in two versions, from Grooverider and A Guy Called Gerald. 'Waterfall' also appears twice, as Oakenfold and Osborne's 12" remix and as Justin Robertson's mix. AllMusic singled out several remixes: 808 State's hard electro-pop take on 'Made Of Stone', Rabbit In The Moon's slow acid house treatment of 'I Wanna Be Adored', and Elephant's eerie, vocoder-heavy 'She Bangs The Drums'. Every source recording bar one was produced by John Leckie. The exception, 'Elephant Stone', was originally a Peter Hook production. All songs are credited to Ian Brown and John Squire. For a Madchester band who always sat close to the dancefloor, it's a natural companion to the original albums. This 2025 reissue restores the original artwork, including notes from the remixers, and presents all twelve tracks across two LPs.
