About the album.
Originally released in October 1991, Penny Century is the debut studio album by The Clouds. First released through Red Eye Records / Polydor, the album became a key Australian indie rock release of the early 90s, reaching the ARIA Albums Chart and later achieving Gold certification.
Built around bright guitar lines, sharp pop instincts and the distinctive vocal interplay of Jodi Phillis and Patricia Young, Penny Century helped define The Clouds’ place in Australia’s alternative music landscape. Featuring Hieronymus and Anthem, the album balances indie rock energy with melody, texture and a quietly off-centre charm.
This 2025 Australian reissue is pressed on opaque green 1LP vinyl through Universal Music. Released on 2 May 2025, it brings one of Australia’s essential early-90s indie records back to wax.
