The title track opens on a loop that circles for four minutes without ever arriving, strings folding over each other above it. Come Together stacks horns and a gospel choir onto a single riff until the edges begin to distort. Most of the record is built this way, dense at the top and simple underneath, so the tunes stay legible beneath all the weight. Broken Heart strips it back to strings and voice with almost nothing under them. No God Only Religion turns free jazz horns loose over a drum pattern that keeps threatening to collapse. Cop Shoot Cop runs seventeen minutes and gives the middle of them over to a piano wandering through feedback before the band walks back in.

About the album.
Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space is Spiritualized's third album, a space rock and alternative record originally released in June 1997 and reissued here by Fat Possum as part of The Spaceman Reissue Program. Jason Pierce began work on it in the summer of 1995, recording and mixing across studios in Bath, London, Memphis, New York and Los Angeles over roughly two years. It was the last Spiritualized album to feature Kate Radley on keyboards, and the first with Damon Reece on drums. The arrangements draw on gospel, free jazz, orchestral minimalism and garage rock, with contributions from the London Community Gospel Choir, members of the Balanescu Quartet, pedal steel player B.J. Cole and Dr John. The title comes from a passage in Jostein Gaarder's novel Sophie's World. The album has appeared on numerous best-of-the-nineties lists and is widely regarded as Pierce's defining work. This edition is remastered and cut at Alchemy Mastering, with reworked artwork by Farrow Design.
