About the album.
Pharoah was recorded in 1977 for the small India Navigation label and spent decades as one of spiritual jazz's most bootlegged and sought-after records before this 2023 Luaka Bop set gave it its first official reissue. Assembled with Pharoah Sanders' blessing shortly before his death in 2022, the box pairs a remastered edition of the original three-track album, the side-long "Harvest Time" its luminous centrepiece, with a second LP, Harvest Time Live 1977, collecting two previously unreleased live performances from Sanders' European tour that summer, played with bassist Hayes Burnett, drummer Clifford Jarvis and keyboardist Khalid Moss. Lacquers were cut at Bernie Grundman Mastering, from transfers and audio restoration by David Hadzis and others. The set includes a 24-page booklet of rarely seen photographs, ephemera and interviews, with essays by Marcus J. Moore and Pierre Crépon.
