Pavement – Slanted & Enchanted (Vinyl LP Red / White / Black Splatter)
Red / White / Black Splatter • 30th Anniversary • Limited Edition
Summer Babe (Winter Version) opens on a detuned guitar, the drums arrive late and stay loose. Trigger Cut / Wounded-Kite At :17 scrapes through two chords before the harmonies stack and fall. Conduit For Sale! a hammered riff and voice shouting the same phrase over. The kit sits high and dry in the mix, rushing one bar and dragging the next. Zurich Is Stained runs under two minutes on an acoustic and stops. Here rings clean and slow, the one stretch where the fuzz lifts. Fame Throwa buries its melody in tape hiss. Our Singer closes on a half-broken strum that simply quits.

About the album.
Slanted & Enchanted is Pavement's 1992 debut and the record most often cited when people describe what indie rock sounded like in the nineties. Most of it was cut in a week at Louder Than You Think in Stockton, California, in January 1991, with "Here" recorded separately at South Makepeace Studios in Brooklyn on Christmas Eve 1990. Cheap distortion and a room-loud drum kit sit alongside melodies that keep surfacing through the noise. It is the only Pavement album featuring drummer Gary Young. The alternative rock canon absorbed it quickly, and the 2020 edition of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums placed it at number 199. This 30th-anniversary edition arrived in August 2022 as part of Matador's Revisionist History series, pressed on red, white, and black splatter vinyl.
