About the album.

By 1995 George Evelyn had already helped define one Warp sound. Smokers Delight is him walking away from it. Where the early Nightmares On Wax records were bleeps and rave breaks, this one slows everything to a crawl and builds a full album out of the hour after the club, all dub bass, jazz keys and soul samples worn soft.

Evelyn produced, mixed and programmed it across three Yorkshire studios, Fon in Sheffield, T.T.B. in Wakefield and Touchwood in Leeds, with a small cast of players brought in to keep it from sounding like a machine. Robin Taylor-Firth's keys turn up across half the record, Chris Dawkins plays the guitar that stretches "Pipes Honour" past nine minutes, and Shovell adds percussion to the closer. Underneath it all sit the samples that give the record its warmth, Quincy Jones on "Nights Introlude", The Dells on "Me + You", Smokey Robinson on "(Man) Tha Journey".

Released 25 September 1995 on Warp, it barely troubled the charts and went on to become one of the most quietly influential British records of the decade, the template for two decades of downtempo that followed. This is the Warp gatefold double LP reissue, cut at Loud Mastering and pressed at Optimal, with printed card inners and a download code.
