Kruder & Dorfmeister - The K&D Sessions (25th Anniversary Boxset Vinyl 6LP)
6LP Box Set • Bernie Grundman Remaster • Photo Book, A2 Poster & Download Codes • Limited 25th Anniversary Audiophile Edition
Bass first, and it never leaves. Drum and bass slowed to a walk. Dub pressure at every edge. Songs you already know arrive unrecognisable, hollowed out and rebuilt around the space where they used to be. Nothing rushes, nothing peaks, nothing raises its voice. Two decades of records have chased this feel and most of them are still chasing.

About the album.
Some records document a scene. This one built it. Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister spent the mid-nineties turning other people's songs inside out of Vienna, and by 1998 they had enough of them to make a case. The K&D Sessions gathered those remixes into a single sprawling compilation that !K7 reports has sold over a million copies, and that effectively defined what downtempo sounded like for the next decade. Drum and bass slowed to a crawl, dub techniques applied to pop songs, bossa rhythms buried three layers deep, all of it unhurried and almost absurdly detailed.
The source material is half the story. Depeche Mode, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Lamb, Roni Size, David Holmes, Bomb The Bass, Alex Reece, Count Basic. None of them arrive sounding like themselves. Kruder and Dorfmeister kept a thread of the original and rebuilt everything else around it, usually slower, usually deeper, always with more air in the mix than the original had any use for.
This 25th anniversary edition runs to six LPs. Five carry the album, remastered and lacquer cut by Bernie Grundman in Los Angeles and pressed at Pallas in Germany. The sixth is a bonus record of six tracks, including the long-form reworking of Madonna's "Nothing Really Matters", Peter Kruder's Powercut Mix of Roni Size's "Heroes", the remix of United Future Organization's "L.O.V.E.", and two alternate takes on Lewis Taylor's "Lucky". The box holds a photo book of images from the original shoot, an A2 poster, newly designed inner sleeves and download codes.
