José González - Vestiges & Claws (Vinyl LP)
Reissue • Includes Download Code
Nylon strings, close-miked. A voice that never rises above the room. Rhythm that circles instead of pushing. Layers stacked so quietly you only notice them once they've gone. Everything happens inside a small space, and the space is the point. This is a record that gets larger the further you lean into it.

About the album.
This is the sound of a musician taking his time. Seven years passed between In Our Nature and Vestiges & Claws, and the record wears that patience openly. Fingerpicked nylon guitar, voice barely above conversational, percussion that ticks rather than drives. Nothing is hurried. Nothing is oversold.
It is González's third studio album, released on 17 February 2015, following In Our Nature (2007). He produced it himself and wrote every track, making it the first of his albums built entirely from original material. His earlier records both leaned on reinterpretations of other people's songs, and their absence here shifts the weight squarely onto his own writing. The album was widely praised on release and went on to win an IMPALA Silver Sales Award and the IMPALA Album of the Year Award. "Every Age" and "Leaf Off / The Cave" were issued as singles.
The pull is in the repetition. Patterns loop and shift by degrees, harmonies arrive late and leave early, and songs resolve without announcing themselves. Warm, close, unshowy. An album that rewards the second and third listen more than the first.
