About the album.

On Giacometti is an ambient, modern classical record released in February 2023, composed and performed by Polish pianist Hania Rani. It began as a score for The Giacomettis, Susanna Fanzun's documentary about the Swiss family of artists who produced Alberto Giacometti, a commission that took Rani to the mountains of the Val Bregaglia to write in isolation over two winter months. The pieces are built from improvised melodies and simple harmonies with the piano at the centre, layered with subtle synthesiser and, on two tracks, cello. It was recorded and mixed at 571 Recording Studios in Zürich, mastered at 4ohm in Berlin, and cut for vinyl at Calyx Mastering. Track titles draw on the family and the valley, among them Stampa, the village the Giacomettis lived in, and Alberto himself. This edition is the Gondwana repress on black vinyl in a Pantone-printed reverse-board sleeve, with revised artwork, a printed insert, and a download code.
