About the album.
Originally released in 1988, Today is the debut studio album from Galaxie 500. Recorded at Noise New York with producer Kramer, the album introduced the Boston trio’s spare, reverb-heavy sound and helped lay the foundations for what would later be described as dream pop and slowcore.
Featuring Flowers, Pictures, Tugboat and Oblivious, the album captures Dean Wareham, Naomi Yang and Damon Krukowski at their most minimal and direct. The songs are simple on the surface, but the mood is unmistakable: open space, restrained playing and a feeling that hangs in the air long after the record ends.
Soft, patient and quietly influential, Today remains a defining Galaxie 500 release and an essential record for fans of dream pop, slowcore and atmospheric indie rock.
