Ringer opens on a single hi-hat pattern and takes almost ten minutes to arrive anywhere, adding one loop at a time until the whole thing is turning like machinery. Nothing is rushed. Ribbons works in chimes and struck metal, the melody circling back on itself with tiny variations you only catch on a second pass. Swimmer runs longer and warmer, its bassline sitting low while the top end flickers. Wing Body Wing stretches out into harp-like arpeggios and a vocal fragment that never resolves into words. Trancer and Moma come from the same sessions and share the same logic, patient, built from loops rather than arrangements.

About the album.

Ringer is an electronic EP by Four Tet, the recording name of London producer Kieran Hebden, first released in 2008 and reissued here in an expanded edition by Text Records. The original four tracks are joined by two more from the same period, and the whole set has been remastered by Hebden himself. It captures a transitional stretch in his catalogue, where the sample-led electronica of Rounds and Everything Ecstatic gave way to longer, looping, more club-facing constructions built around minimal techno pulses and repeating melodic cells. The title track alone runs close to ten minutes. The vinyl was cut by Matt Colton, and the package includes a booklet of previously unpublished photographs taken by Jason Evans for the original release. Released 27 November 2026.
