About the album.

Elaenia is an electronic and future jazz record released in November 2015, the debut album by Floating Points, the alias of British musician and neuroscientist Sam Shepherd. He spent about five years making it, moving away from laptop production to a studio built around a Studer A80 tape machine, and brought strings, drums, and voices in alongside banks of analogue synthesisers. Shepherd drew the cover himself using a home-made harmonograph strung with fibre optic cables, and named the record after a genus of bird. Luaka Bop issued it in the United States, and Shepherd's own Pluto label in the UK. Pharoah Sanders heard it and sought Shepherd out, which led to Promises with the London Symphony Orchestra in 2021, a record the ambient and leftfield stretches of Elaenia point straight toward. This edition marks ten years since release, remastered and carrying the previously unreleased bonus track Precursor, packaged with a booklet.
