About the album.

Helplessness Blues is the second album from Fleet Foxes, released by Sub Pop on 3 May 2011. The band produced and arranged it themselves, with Phil Ek co-producing, engineering and mixing.

Robin Pecknold wrote and sings the songs, playing guitar, piano, fiddle, mandolin, hammer dulcimer, harmonium, and lever harp across the record. Skyler Skjelset plays guitar and mandolin; Casey Wescott brings pump organ, mellotron, harpsichord, musical box, tremolo zither, marxophone, and Tibetan singing bowls; Morgan Henderson plays upright bass and woodwind; Christian Wargo electric bass and vocals; and Josh Tillman drums, percussion, and vocals. Alina To plays violin on "Bedouin Dress," whose strings were arranged with help from Hanna Benn, and on "The Shrine / An Argument." Bill Patton adds pedal and lap steel to "Grown Ocean."

Recording ran through 2010 across Reciprocal Recording and Avast! in Seattle, Dreamland in West Hurley, New York, and Bear Creek in Woodinville, Washington, with loud noises captured at the Fort Warden water cistern in Port Townsend. Greg Calbi mastered the album at Sterling Sound, where Ray Janos cut the lacquers, and the plates were made at Record Technology Incorporated.

Artwork and design are by Sean Pecknold and Dusty Summers, with a cover mind-map illustration by Toby Liebowitz, sunburst painting by Olivia Park-Sargent and type design by Robin Pecknold. The album is dedicated to Andy Kotowicz.

This is the double vinyl pressing in a gatefold sleeve, with an oversized two-sided poster and a download card.
