Several Got Away opens on a guitar tone pushed well past where it wants to sit, thick and fraying at the edges. The drums land behind it dry and close, with no room to hide in. Everything At Once makes space for a piano line that runs under the fuzz rather than over it. Blowin' Up drops the vocal down and forward, a rougher grain set against the same wall of guitar. Clam Along is the longest thing here at nearly five minutes, and the guitar takes most of that room. Read The Room pulls back toward a plain strum before the amp swallows it again. Put It Down brings organ up through the middle of the mix. No One's Ready closes it out inside three and a half minutes, still at full volume.

About the album.

There Near is an alternative rock and indie rock album from Dinosaur Jr., released on Jagjaguwar in August 2026. It is the sixth studio album the reunited trio of J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph has made together, recorded and mixed in short bursts over a year at Bisquiteen in Amherst, Massachusetts, with Mascis producing. Ken Mauri adds piano to Everything At Once and piano and organ to Put It Down. Mascis wrote nine of the eleven songs, with Barlow taking Blowin' Up and No One's Ready. Mascis has attributed the record's rawer guitar tone in part to a 1970s Mesa Boogie MK 1 amp acquired shortly before the sessions. John Agnello mixed it, and Sterling Sound mastered it, and this indies-only edition is pressed on pink clear vinyl in a single sleeve with a printed inner sleeve.
