About the album.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is David Bowie's fifth studio album, a glam rock concept record first released by RCA on 16 June 1972.

Bowie built it around a loose story of Ziggy Stardust, a rock star carrying a message from extraterrestrial beings to a world running out of time, who rises fast and burns out. The songs carry the arc without spelling it out, from the end of the world warning of 'Five Years' through to the collapse of 'Rock 'N' Roll Suicide'.

It was recorded at Trident Studios in London and produced by Bowie with Ken Scott. The Spiders were Mick Ronson on guitar, piano and vocals, Trevor Bolder on bass and Mick Woodmansey on drums, with Ronson sharing arrangement credits alongside Bowie. The album's one cover, 'It Ain't Easy', was written by Ron Davies.

This Parlophone edition carries the 2012 remaster on heavyweight 180g vinyl, pressed in Germany by Optimal Media. It comes in a poly-lined inner sleeve with a replica of the original picture and lyric inner, and the back cover still carries the original instruction to play it at maximum volume.

Ziggy followed The Man Who Sold The World and Hunky Dory, and the three make a natural run through Bowie's early seventies. For the other end of his career, Blackstar is his final studio album, released in January 2016.
