About the album.
Originally released on 17 June 2011, Bon Iver is the second studio album from Bon Iver. Released through Jagjaguwar, the album marked a major expansion from the sparse intimacy of For Emma, Forever Ago into a richer, more layered and atmospheric sound.
Written and recorded by Justin Vernon with a wider cast of musicians, the album blends indie folk, chamber pop, soft rock, ambient textures and brass arrangements into something open and deeply immersive.
Featuring Perth, Minnesota, WI, Holocene, Towers, Calgary and Beth/Rest, the album moves through place names, memory, distance and emotional atmosphere rather than straightforward confession.
Bon Iver won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album, with Bon Iver also winning Best New Artist at the 2012 Grammy Awards.
