AIR - Moon Safari (Vinyl LP 180g)
180g • Printed Inner Sleeve
La Femme D'Argent opens on seven minutes of bass that never lifts its voice, an organ solo drifting over the top. Sexy Boy arrives on vocoder and talk box with the drum machine set well back. All I Need thins out to Wurlitzer and acoustic guitar, the vocal barely above a murmur. Kelly Watch The Stars runs on handclaps and a Moog line that keeps circling back on itself. Talisman puts strings over a rhythm box, closer to a film cue than a song. Remember is two and a half minutes of vocoder and then it stops. Ce Matin Là turns on a tuba and a harmonica. Le Voyage De Penelope fades out on handclaps with the Minimoog still running.

About the album.
Moon Safari is the debut album by AIR, the French electronic duo of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel, released in January 1998 and one of the records that defined downtempo for the decade that followed. It was built on vintage hardware rather than samplers, with Minimoog, Korg MS-20, Wurlitzer, Rhodes, Solina and vocoder running through most of the ten tracks, which is a large part of why it has aged the way it has. Recording took place at Around The Golf and Studio Gang in Paris, with David Whitaker writing and conducting the string arrangements, which were recorded at Abbey Road in London. Beth Hirsch sings on "All I Need" and "You Make It Easy". Stéphane "Alf" Briat mixed at Plus XXX in Paris and Nilesh Patel mastered at The Exchange in London. Mike Mills designed the sleeve. "Sexy Boy" and "Kelly Watch The Stars" both charted internationally and pulled the album well beyond the French club audience it started with. This 180g Parlophone pressing carries the original artwork and printed inner sleeve, with lacquers cut by Miles Showell at Masterpiece
