About the album.

Originally released on 19 October 1993, Vs. is Pearl Jam’s second studio album. Following the huge success of Ten, the album captured the band moving toward a rawer, more immediate sound while pushing back against the commercial weight building around them.

Produced by Brendan O’Brien, Vs. stripped away some of the polish of the debut and brought Pearl Jam’s live energy closer to the surface. The result is a tense, powerful and emotionally charged record that helped define the band’s place in the 90s alternative rock explosion.

Featuring Go, Animal, Daughter, Glorified G, Dissident, Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town and Rearviewmirror, the album moves between anger, vulnerability, social commentary and release.

Vs. remains one of Pearl Jam’s essential records. Heavier than Ten, less controlled, and built with the urgency of a band trying not to be swallowed by its own momentum.
