About the album.
The Universe Smiles Upon You is the 2015 debut album by Khruangbin, the Houston trio of Mark Speer, Laura Lee Ochoa and Donald "DJ" Johnson. Steeped in the 1960s and '70s Thai funk and soul the band pored over on old cassettes, its largely instrumental grooves drift between psychedelia, surf, dub and soul, spacious, unhurried and quietly hypnotic. Recorded in a rural east-Texas barn, it introduced one of the most distinctive sounds in modern instrumental music.
This reissue is pressed on 180-gram vinyl via Night Time Stories, with a hidden track tucked in after the locked groove.
