About the album.
Veckatimest is the third album from Brooklyn quartet Grizzly Bear, Ed Droste and Daniel Rossen on guitar and vocals, Chris Taylor on bass and woodwinds, and Christopher Bear on drums, and the first to feature all four members operating as genuine creative equals. Produced by Taylor, recording began in summer 2008 at Allaire Studios in New York's Catskill Mountains before the band spent time at Droste's grandmother's home on Cape Cod, near the small uninhabited island that lends the album its name. The result is their most compositionally ambitious and collaboratively realised record: twelve tracks built around layered multi-part harmonies, chamber arrangements by composer Nico Muhly, and contributions from Victoria Legrand of Beach House and the Brooklyn Youth Choir. Released May 2009 on Warp Records, it entered the US Billboard 200 at No. 8 and spent years appearing on critics' lists of the decade's best albums, Pitchfork ranked it No. 42 in their top 200 of the 2000s, and Stereogum named it the second best album of 2009. This pressing is the 2012 reissue on 180g black vinyl.
