About the album.

Released in 2005 on Beggars Banquet, Alligator is the third studio album from The National. The record marked a decisive shift toward a more urgent and rhythm-driven sound.

Tracks such as “Secret Meeting,” “All the Wine” and “Mr. November” demonstrate the tighter arrangements and heightened emotional intensity that defined this phase of the band’s development. Matt Berninger’s baritone remains central, exploring themes of anxiety, ambition and social unease with measured restraint.

Situated between the band’s early minimalism and the broader textures of later releases, Alligator stands as a defining mid-2000s indie record.

Pressed on black vinyl and housed in a single sleeve.
