About the album.
Released in 2016, Skeleton Tree is the sixteenth studio album from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. The record began taking shape in late 2014 at Retreat Studios in Brighton, with further sessions at La Frette Studios in France before being mixed at AIR Studios in London in early 2016.
Produced by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, the album extends the stripped-back direction introduced on Push the Sky Away, favouring minimal instrumentation and textural layering over full-band arrangements. Synth lines, subtle percussion and restrained guitar work shape a tightly focused sonic environment.
Rather than leaning on the dramatic scale of earlier releases, Skeleton Tree presents one of the band’s most concentrated studio statements.
Pressed on black vinyl and housed in a gatefold sleeve.
