About the album.
Cutthroat, released in September 2025 on Dead Oceans, is Shame's fourth studio album and arguably their most direct. The band, Charlie Steen, guitarists Sean Coyle-Smith and Eddie Green, bassist Josh Finerty, and drummer Charlie Forbes, have been childhood friends since school, and Cutthroat marks a deliberate leap forward after three critically acclaimed albums. Producer John Congleton, known for his work with St. Vincent and Angel Olsen, pushed the band toward a leaner, more confrontational sound. The album takes aim at conflict, corruption, hunger, desire, and cowardice, all delivered with Shame's trademark dark humour intact. Coyle-Smith's side work producing electronic music on tour fed directly into the record's new sonic textures, broadening the band's palette without softening their edges. The result is a record that's tighter, harder, and more focused than anything in their catalogue so far.
