Released on 24 September 1991, The Low End Theory is the second studio album from A Tribe Called Quest. Released through Jive Records and largely produced by Q-Tip, it fused jazz and hip-hop into something fully formed rather than just sampled, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever made.

Built on stripped-back drums, deep bass lines and a guest appearance from legendary jazz bassist Ron Carter, the album also marked the arrival of Phife Dawg as a fully-fledged force alongside Q-Tip. Featuring Check the Rhime, Jazz (We've Got), Buggin' Out and the all-time posse cut Scenario, the track that introduced the world to a young Busta Rhymes, it remains the blueprint for jazz-rap and a cornerstone of hip-hop's golden era.
