About the album.
Released in 1975, Horses is the debut album from Patti Smith and a foundational release in the development of punk and alternative music.
Produced by John Cale, the album combines poetry, improvisation and minimal rock arrangements, departing from conventional song structures of the time. Tracks such as Gloria and Land extend beyond standard formats, allowing space for rhythm and narrative to evolve organically.
Its influence is structural as much as cultural, prioritising expression over form and setting a precedent for artists that followed.
