About the album.

Originally released on 26 March 2021, Promises is a collaborative album by British electronic musician Floating Points, American saxophonist Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra. It was released through Luaka Bop and produced by Floating Points.

The album is structured as one continuous 46-minute composition divided into nine movements, centred around a repeating motif written by Sam Shepherd. Around that motif, Sanders’ saxophone drifts, searches and lifts, while the London Symphony Orchestra adds slow-building strings and orchestral depth.

Widely acclaimed on release, Promises was shortlisted for the 2021 Mercury Prize and became one of Pharoah Sanders’ final major recorded works before his death in 2022.
