The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and number two on the Billboard 200, and it was shortlisted for the 2001 Mercury Prize. At the 44th Grammy Awards in 2002, it was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album, and its special limited edition packaging won Best Recording Package. Stanley Donwood and \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/juicyrecords.com.au\/products\/mark-pritchard-thom-yorke-tall-tales-vinyl\"\u003eThom Yorke\u003c\/a\u003e (credited as Tchocky) designed the artwork. Rolling Stone placed the album at number 320 in its 2012 revision of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Its experimental streak runs through the whole record, from processed vocals and drum programming to the jazz arrangement at the close.
