The series began in 2007 and ran for nearly two decades, built on the idea of copying source material until the copy replaces the original. This closing volume changes the method. Rather than working from samples, Nicolai composed original melodic sketches first, then applied the copying and reshaping process to his own material, drawing on his recent work with film scores and larger ensembles so certain parts were written with orchestral translation in mind. The album carries a strong sense of farewell, both to the series and to people close to him, including Ryuichi Sakamoto, a longtime collaborator and admirer of the Xerrox work who died in 2023. Twelve pieces run to just under eighty minutes across four sides.
