It is also their debut for Partisan Records, after a career spent largely on Matador. The album was produced by Andrew Wyatt and mixed by Dave Fridmann, recorded at Wyatt's studio on Manhattan's Lower East Side, the first time in roughly a decade the band have made a record in their home city. Longtime touring keyboardist Brandon Curtis and bassist Brad Truax were brought into the line-up for the sessions, expanding the core trio of Paul Banks, Daniel Kessler and Sam Fogarino to a five-piece. Across twelve tracks the band widen their indie rock palette with strings, woodwinds, acoustic guitar, layered vocal harmonies and experimental sound design, while keeping the atmosphere, restraint and rhythmic tension that have defined their work since Turn On the Bright Lights. The title track, See Out Loud and Iron City were released as singles ahead of the album.
